At 5.50pm, I went ice skating at Bryant Park.

February 25, 2024, Sunday

This morning I went running with Fleet Feet Union Square, located at 42 West 14th Street. Today's running was a special event, sponsored by Diadora. I got there at 9.30am, and tried on a pair of new Diadora running shoes. As soon as I put on the shoes, I felt that they were too tight in the middle section. We ran for about 3 miles, from the store to Chelsea Piers and back along 14th Street and West side highway. The temperature was about 30 degrees Fahrenheit. But I didn't feel too cold since we were running and it was sunny. After running back to the store, we did a Diadora trivia quiz. The winner and the person in the 2nd place each won a pair of Diadora running shoes. I didn't win.

From 12.40pm to 1.40pm, I went ice skating at Bryant Park. There was a young lady in a dress with a sash saying Happy 21st birthday. She is actually a tourist from Ukraine. I told her about the Ukrainian artist Mykola, who usually showing and selling his oil paintings by the boathouse in Central Park. The young lady was interested to see the paintings, but I doubt if Mykola would be in Central Park today because of the low temperature, and she would be leaving tomorrow morning.

After skating, I watched for a while the Lunar Chinese new year parade in the Lower East Side near Chinatown. While watching the parade, a group of four Russian ladies asked me if I knew a good Chinese restaurant, I mentioned to them Congee Village. At the end of the parade, I saw two Latina/Latino dance groups, who usually participate in the Dance Parade.

The temperature from tomorrow will be much higher.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am grateful
To everyone who has helped me
With books, clothes, food, and other stuff
I think you can imagine
The hardships when someone's life is stolen
Someone's future is stolen
But still has to survive

I am grateful
To those who keep the air clean
Who make the water clean
Who make our planet sustainable

I am grateful
To those who grow beans
Corns, rice, wheat
And fruits and vegetables
Though they may not be the ones who profit from them

So
Happy Thanksgiving!

What Happened in 2022

As 2022 is coming to an end, let's review what has happened this year.

1. Covid-19 pandemic continues globally. I hope that it ends soon.

2. Russia invades Ukraine. I wish that Russia stop right now.

3. The 2022 Winter Olympics was held in Beijing. The Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was so promising at the beginning, but was soon involved in a scandal. I wonder if she is okay now, and hope to see her perform on the ice again!

4. Liz Truss became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, but soon resigned after about a month and half. I wonder what she is doing now.

5. Elizabeth Holmes was convicted and sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for defrauding. I wonder if she is doing okay. It still sounds like a great idea to diagnose complicated diseases based on a single drop of blood. I wish one day it will become a science breakthrough.

6. Talking about breakthroughs in science: nuclear fusion, pig heart transplant to human body, the Webb Telescope images/discoveries, etc, there are so many. I haven't been keeping up with the science news, though.

7. The Amber Heard defamation case. I haven't heard that Heard was sentenced or convicted. That's right. Neither of them was. Please check the internet for the settlement. I guess the moral of this story is that, everyone should stay true to each other in any relationships, as defamation is not smart, and should be avoided. I wish both of them live the better versions of themselves, and enjoy happy lives in the future.

8. Some celebrities left us in 2022, including the following: Olivia Newton John, Irene Cara, Angela Lansbury, Vivienne Westwood, Ronnie Spector, Kirsty Alley, etc. I've seen some of them performing on stage before, and some of them in movies, such as Olivia Newton John in the movie Grease, Irene Cara in the movies Fame, and Flashdance, which inspired generations of young musical lovers, dancers, and singers. Rest in peace!
