Who Has Seen the Wind?

by Christina Rosseetti*

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.

*Christina Rosseetti (1830 - 1894), was an English poet who wrote a variety of romantic, devotional, and children's poems.

Give Him Enough Rope

Happy π Approximation Day!

Today is July 22. In the day/month date format, it is written as 22/7.

Since 22/7 = 3.14285714286, it is approximately the value of π, which is commonly approximated as 3.14.

The constant π is defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It is one of the most useful numbers in mathematics, though it is irrational.

Keep Calm*

Keep calm and meditate
Even if it’s only ten minutes a day
Keep calm and have a cup coffee
Even if it’s after 2pm, and you think that’s too late

Keep calm and go for a walk
Even if it’s cold and snowing
Keep calm and listen to the radio
Even if it’s 2 o’clock in the morning

Keep calm and sing a song
Even if it sounds off-key
Keep calm and run a marathon
Even if you need to stop and breathe

Keep calm and cook a meal
Even if it’s merely an egg and cheese
Keep calm and read a book
Even if it’s the philosophy of Socrates

Happy Earth Day!*

Cherry Blossoms. Tulips.
Flowers are blooming.
The city is so colorful,
Because it is spring.

Tourists are taking pictures,
While inhaling a breath of fresh air.
A little girl is posing and smiling,
Breeze blowing through her tender hair.

Runners, cyclists, rollerbladers,
are exercising on Hudson River Greenway.
Who doesn't want to get in shape?
On this warm April day.

The earth has lived for four and half billion years.
Giant dinosaurs have come and gone.
Now it is the age of flowers.
If you can, enjoy every day and every hour.

* Earth Day is on April 22nd. This poem was written in April 2016.
